ANDINO SHOPPING CENTRE

The Andino Shopping Centre is located to only 15 minutes by taxi from the hostel, ($12.000 COP, aprox. $US7), synonym of elegance, in the hearth of the exclusive “Zona T”, with nearly 206 stores, prestigious restaurants, food court, modern movie teathers and recognized boutiques. The mall is also reachable by bus from the hostel ($1.400 COP, aprox. $US0.77).
This mall is characterized for offering good brands, this is reflected in the prices of the articles, brands like Chevignon, Nike, Guess, Mario Hernandez, among other elite shop compounding the 3 levels of this mall. Buyers can find all sorts of articles, from sports wear until Tipical Colombian Handcrafts, good food, café houses, pubs and financial institutions.

EL RETIRO SHOPPING CENTRE

Located right across the street from the ANDINO is a very exclusive mall for high budgets, however, the articles founded in this mall are of excellent designs and quality. The bioggest attraction of this mall is ANDRES D.C. a restaurant-Bar-Night Club considered as the best party place in Bogota. This shopping centre has less shops than Andino and the range of products is not as wide, but it is worth it to look at the stores and enjoy the fanciest articles you can find in Bogota.

ATLANTIS SHOPPING CENTRE

This shopping centre is also located in “ZONA T”, just a couple of blocks from Andino and El Retiro, the most interesting aspect from this mall is its original design which reminds the malls from Miami Beach. A shopping day may be more pleasant having a cocktail in “TROPICAL COCKTAILS” or a nice meal in HARD ROCK CAFÉ BOGOTA. The range of articles is remarkable, from clothing to electronics ware, with the Cinemak movie theaters and a modern food court with different gastronomical offers. After a shopping day visitors can relax having a colmbia coffee in the Juan Valdes Café store.

SANTA FE SHOPPING CENTRE

Considered the biggest shopping centre in Colombia offers all imaginable products and articles; if you cannot find something in this mall is because it doesn’t exist; besides, it offers different events and special seasons throughout the year. From the Hostel, it takes about 45-60 minutes to get there by transmilenio ($1.700 COP; aprox. US$1), a taxi might charge approximately 25.000 COP, aprox. $US14. This mall has the best attraction for kids between 3 and 14 years old, DIVERCITY, a place that teach kids to “work” in different activities while they have make funny-money to spend in the  funiest city ever. The place has a special section for parents where they can surf the net or learn how to cook new dishes while their kids play in a safety environment.

USAQUEN’S FLEA MARKET

Usaquen is one of the most pleasant neighborhoods in the capital, once was a colonial villa outside the city, at only 40 minutes from the hostel or 20 in taxi (15.000 COP, aprox $US8). Its buildings from the XVII century, the streets in stone, and the square, reminds the architecture of the colonial period. Usaquen offers buyers a exquisite variety in the surroundings of the “plaza”, along with excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants. It also has the “HACIENDA SANTA BARBARA” Shopping centre, one of the most exclusives, and thanks to its architecture, beautiful in the city.

Although, the most interesting thing in this area is its famous FLEA MARKET, TAKES PLACE ON Sundays, from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m. Traditionally habitants from Bogota have reached this market to get curious objects, handcrafts, food, clothing, antiques, and many more items, its wide variety can satisfy all tastes, tendencies and budgets.

SAN ALEJO’S FLEA MARKET

This market opens the possibility to nearly 500 families to work in the restoration of curious antiques, books, making handcrafts, and off course the commercialization of these products. It is also an space for local artists to show their talent to nearly 40.000 visitors per year. It only takes 25 minutes walking from the hostel to reach this market. Open on Sundays from 8 a.m. till 5 p.m.

SAN ANDRESITO

A trip in Transmilenio during nearly 60 minutes north of Bogota will take buyers to a place called “SAN ANDRESITO”, the name stands for the Colombian Island of San Andres, where, before the Economical openness of the country in 1991, Colombians used to go to acquiere items that couldn’t be founded in Continental territory due to protectionism. Products here are USUALLY cheaper (sometimes the quality and guarantee is worth the extra money) than in other parts of the city. The structure is not very fancy, the stores are small, there are people around offering you all sort of products, buyers can find perfumes, toys, health care products, movies, music, video games, electronic ware, alcohol, cigarettes, candies …. And the list goes on
